What does that look like?
I will carry a caseload and remain in the courtroom representing clients. This will ensure that I am in touch with what is happening in every courtroom of our circuit. Being board certified in criminal trial law, it will also make sure that I keep my credentials current and am well versed in current case law and procedure.
Lawyers in the trial division, with large caseloads and massive dockets, need to know that their leader understands what it’s like to balance such a heavy workload. I’ve been a division chief, handling serious cases and training the newer attorneys, so I understand what it’s takes to effectively manage day to day strains.
When issues arise that are high profile and complex, it’s imperative that the elected Public Defender handle those cases, to set the tone for the quality of representation we bring and legal expertise that we possess.
